Know about fasting before you start doing

Prior to embarking on a fasting regimen, acquaint yourself with key information about it. In this post I'll be talking about the basic knowledge you should have about fasting and then about my personal experiences.

1. What's your need and how to fast.
2. Protection against demonic attacks.
3. Do not expect your wish is gonna come true with the power of fasting. God is not your slave.
4. How to take care of your health during fasting.

1. What's your need.
At times we face critical situations in life where support from family, friends and acquaintances proves insufficient. It is then that we seek divine help.

Someone who's loved one is in hospital can fast.
Parents can definitely pray and fast for their kids.
Youngsters can pray and fast for God's interference in their career and marriage.
Adults should definitely fast for their younger generations to be protected from demonic interference.
Someone seeking deliverance from evil possession should fast and pray until delivered.

Whatever your need is you can fast and pray. My suggestion is that don't fast unless you have a very solid reason. Fasting is not something to be taken lightly.

Once you have decided to do a fasting prayer, wake up early, kneel in prayer, close your eyes and fold your hands in reverence for God and seek his help with all your heart. Say to God I shall be on a fasting prayer from now on to this time in the evening. Likewise declare the time duration of fasting and mention the purpose of it.

2. Protection against demonic attacks.
If you're fasting then brace yourself for demonic interference.
What devil hates is to see God moving in a believer's life. Because it's a threat to him. Once you seek God and for suppose you receive help from God, then it is quite obvious that your gonna attract others towards God and this petrifies devil.
So he is gonna try ALL possible ways to disturb your prayer. Don't be alarmed to hear this, devil can increase your hunger levels and make you go sick to the level where you decide to discontinue your fasting.
Don't be alarmed to see visuals of your nasty past life being played before you as if movie is being played in front of you and only you can watch it.
Don't be alarmed if you see visuals of naked body parts followed by a sense of confusion about what's going on and then a voice saying "you have sinned against God, your fasting is not going to be accepted".
People around you can attack you and pass the demonic power over them to you by their words that can be as disturbing as squeezing your soul from the inside.
The onset of a sudden sound disturbance like loud music being played in the surroundings can be from devil trying to deviate you from your prayer. While you prepare yourself to kneel and start praying,
many of you may experience body pains and this is because when you kneel in prayer an evil spirit stands right behind you and releases demonic power over your body causing extreme body pain. It also pours in thoughts into your mind and shows you that you are hitting Jesus with your legs, spitting at him and kicking his throne with your feet.

All sorts of disturbing attacks are possible. So isn't there a way out of it?. Certainly there is a way and that is "In the name of Jesus".

Right in the morning hours when you kneel to declare your fast, command evil to stay away from you. Do it this way, speak up loud and clear with confidence in Jesus, say "In the name of Jesus I command every evil power to stay away from me and my family(name them one by one) for all this day and all this night and I cancel every demonic activity being plotted against us".

Don't be shy to ask God to help you in resisting yourself from food during fasting. Include this in your prayer, "Jesus please suppress my hunger levels so I can finish my fast".

3. Do not expect your wish is gonna come true. God is not your slave.

All you have to do is fast and seek God's help. Leave the decision making part to God.  I have seen my senior pastor doing fasting prayers for his sick wife. He fasted for more than a month, but she died on the hospital bed. He was devastated but just said one word, "let God's will be done". That was an eye opening experience for me because in church pastors exaggerate about fasting prayers a lot. They say in loud and confident voices, "believe in the power of God, believe in the power of fasting" and obviously one common sentence you always hear, "nothing is impossible to God". We hear all such statements and we raise the bar of our expectations.

Actually it's like seeing both sides of a coin. I have seen people getting miracles done for themselves through fasting and I have also seen people who haven't received what they expected from God.

Likewise, I have seen people's diseases being healed through the hands of my pastor and I have also seen people whose challenges never appear to stop no matter how many times the pastor does prayers for them in person and in public. Truly it's all about God's will. We can only seek his help but we can never force him.

4. How to take care of your health during fasting.

You can have all sorts of liquids during fasting. Usually when someone goes on a fasting prayer in critical situations like a loved one's life is in danger, obviously in such situations you don't feel like eating anything, but it's important to stay hydrated so you can finish your fast successfully for the day and wakeup to continue it for the next few days.

If you are someone who does fasting prayer once in every week( like suppose you are fasting for your kids or if you have decided to serve the Lord and start praying for the church and for souls) then you should definitely take drinks that not only keeps you hydrated but also meets your daily nutrition. You must include drinks with beetroot and lemon. A milkshake would be good for your daily protein requirement. A lentil soup would also be great for you.

Hope this article helps you in your journey of seeking God's intervention in your life.
